The History Channel brand manifesto & design strategy was the result of a thoughtful brand re-examination. Our goal was to identify the existing equity and create guidelines that would guide its future expansion and growth. I worked with the creative, design and strategy team at Stun Creative / Buster Design to develop the brand manifesto, logo progression, international on air graphics packaging and style guide.


THE HISTORY RALLYING CRY
The rallying cry was a direct call to action to “Make Your Mark”. Just like the authentic characters found in History programing the mark can be made in history past, present day and in every day promotion and programming decisions.

The History brand manifesto, poster and visual style-guide were created to set guidelines and inspire the programming and advertising groups everyday.


THE FAMILY OF HISTORY MARKS
Research strongly supported keeping the History gold chiseled logo. Everything else that had been added over the years had no brand equity. So we simplified the suite of marks down to their simplest form.

A CUSTOM FAMILY OF FONTS
A custom chiseled typeface was developed from the ground up to match the History brand mark. No broadcast network can own gold chiseled type like History can. A bold sans-serif typeface was added to contrast the chiseled serif.

A BROADCAST DESIGN ROADMAP
The logo, typography and visceral content of History was wrapped into an immersive broadcast branding packaging. Each genre used unique imagery and a custom color scheme fused together with a touch of solid chiseled gold.
